Flight meant for Germany ends up in Scotland by mistake

Passengers on a British Airways flight from London, England to Dusseldorf, Germany today were in for quite the surprise when they landed.

Instead of travelling east to Dusseldorf, the flight made its way north and landed in Edinburgh, Scotland.

People took to Twitter to try and get some answers and were given some vague explanations from the airline.

“The flight has been diverted to Edinburgh, we don’t have any information as to why at the moment,” said one tweet from British Airways.

Finally, the London City Airport, where the flight took off from, was able to offer up an explanation as to why the flight ended up 843 kilometres away from its intended destination.

“As pleasant as Edinburgh is this time of year, we’re sorry that passengers travelling to Dusseldorf on BA3271, operated by WDL Aviation, initially landed in the Scottish capital, rather than their intended destination,” said a tweet from the airport.

“This was due to an incorrect flight plan submitted by WDL.”

The plane eventually got back in the air and made its way to its intended destination, Dusseldorf, and British Airways is investigating the incident.
