Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has condemned Mark Carney by name in an impassioned speech published on social media.
Referring to the killings of two Israeli embassy staff in Washington, DC last night, Netanyahu said Carney – as well as the leaders of France and the UK – has “bought into Hamas’s propaganda that says Israel is starving Palestinian children.”
This “lie,” Netanyahu said, is believed by “the mob,” adding: “And a young couple is then brutally gunned down in Washington.”
The Israeli PM also attacked Carney for threatening, alongside France and the UK, “concrete actions” against Israel over its retaliatory war in Gaza.

“You won't be surprised to learn that Hamas thanked President Macron and Prime Ministers Starmer and Carney for demanding that Israel end its war in Gaza immediately,” Netanyahu said.
“Hamas was right to thank them. Because by issuing their demand – replete with a threat of sanctions against Israel, against Israel, not Hamas – these three leaders effectively said they want Hamas to remain in power.”
He added: “I say to President Macron, Prime Minister Carney and Prime Minister Starmer: When mass murderers, rapists, baby killers and kidnappers thank you, you're on the wrong side of justice. You're on the wrong side of humanity and you're on the wrong side of history.”
On Monday, Carney released a statement jointly signed by Macron and Starmer which said “the level of human suffering in Gaza is intolerable,” adding: “We condemn the abhorrent language used recently by members of the Israeli Government.”
The leaders threatened “targeted sanctions” if Israel refuses to end its latest military actions in Gaza, which have been ongoing in one form or another since Hamas organized the massacre of more than a thousand Israelis in October 2023.
On Wednesday, meanwhile, Carney said there are “many things that are totally unacceptable” going on in the Israel-Palestine region.
He made that remark in reference to Canada’s decision to summon the Israeli ambassador after four Canadians were among a delegation to the West Bank that was subjected to warning shots fired by Israeli troops on Wednesday.
Yaron and Sarah were our friends and colleagues. They were in the prime of their lives.

The Israeli military said it “regrets the inconvenience” caused to the delegation by the troops.
Foreign Minister Anita Anand, who has previously rebuked Israel over the lack of aid reaching Gazans, said Canada has “serious concerns” about the incident.
In the video released today, however, Netanyahu said the Liberal government’s interventions in the war are not having a positive effect.
“These leaders may think that they're advancing peace,” he said. “They’re not. They’re emboldening Hamas to continue fighting forever. And they give them hope to establish a second Palestinian state from which Hamas will again seek to destroy the Jewish state.”
A 30-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the killings of the embassy staff in Washington, DC last night. He has been accused of subscribing to left-wing ideology and shouting "free Palestine" in the aftermath of the killings.
The Liberal government is yet to respond to Netanyahu’s latest remarks. NowMedia has requested comment from the prime minister.
