In late June, the story broke that Donald Trump hung a Time magazine cover of himself at several of his clubs from South Florida to Scotland.
But it took the internet somewhere between little and no time at all to defraud the cover, denouncing it a fake.
“I can confirm that this is not a real TIME cover,” Kerri Chyka, a spokeswoman for Time Inc., told The Washington Post in June.
Chyka presented these points as evidence the cover was fake as well as the fact that there was no March 1, 2009, issue of Time magazine. In fact, there was no issue at all in 2009 that had Trump on the cover.
All this provides context for the irony that Trump will be on several magazine covers next month, including Time Magazine.
The latest from the Economist depicts the president bellowing into a white, conical megaphone with eye holes that lend the appearance of a Ku Klux Klan hood, which seems to imply that Trump has amplified the message of white supremacists.
Time magazine's new cover image features a boot-clad white man behind an American flag, held aloft at a 45-degree angle by a pole whose ornament is an outstretched hand, creating the effect of a Nazi salute.
The New Yorker cover appears to be rather self-explanatory.
While Trump has infamously attacked the media with accusations of "Fake News", it should be noted he has given both the Economist and Time appreciation in the past.
I'm sure the media will not report the highly respected new national poll that just came out via The Economist. 32%! https://t.co/aalSqnGHa3
