English rock musician and founding member of Motörhead, Ian ‘Lemmy’ Kilmister, has passed away at the age of 70.
Kilmister was best known as the lead vocalist, bassist, and principal songwriter for the heavy metal band. Kilmister lost his a short battle with an extremely aggressive cancer. According to band members, Kilmister learned on December 26th that he had cancer and now, two days later he is gone.
“We cannot begin to express our shock and sadness, there aren’t words,” said the band on their Facebook page. Friends have taken to Twitter including rocker Ozzy Osbourne to express their shock and sadness.
Lost one of my best friends, Lemmy, today. He will be sadly missed. He was a warrior and a legend. I will see you on the other side.

Kilmister had just celebrated his 70th birthday on Christmas Eve with friends and family by his side.
“We will say more in the coming days, but for now, please…play Motörhead loud, play Hawkwind loud, play Lemmy’s music LOUD,” said his band members.
Many grew up listening to Kilmister’s music and consider his death a great loss for the heavy metal scene.
