The world premiere of The Tragically Hip documentary has been moved up to this weekend

Canada was rocked by the news of Gord Downie’s death on Wednesday.

Downie and the rest of The Tragically Hip were Canada’s band and they touched the lives of millions of Canadians, maybe no more so than during their final tour in the summer of 2016.

That entire experience was captured and transformed into a documentary called “Long Time Running,” which premiered at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival to rave reviews.

The film’s public debut, however, wasn’t scheduled to happen until November, but that all changed with Downie’s death.

CTV announced on Thursday morning that they’ll now be airing the 95-minute documentary nationwide for the first time on Friday evening.

“Canadians from across the country are grieving the passing of this extraordinary individual, and in consultation with the band, we thought this was the right time to share with fans this intimate peek into last summer’s tour,” said Randy Lennox, President of Bell Media.

“Gord Downie’s talent, passion, and heart made this country a better place. Gord, we miss you already.”

The film documents the bands Man Machine Poem tour and their emotional final show in their hometown of Kingston, Ontario.

It takes you behind the scenes with never before seen footage, interviews with the band and a whole lot more.

So set your PVR, because after it airs on CTV on Friday night it won’t be seen again until it’s originally planned debut date of November 12th.

After that, it’ll be available to watch on demand on CraveTV.
