A Peachland company has announced that it is working to become one Canada’s first federally sanctioned Medical Marijuana Licenced Producers under the new regulations.
Potanicals Green Growers has already achieved first approval under the ready to build status under Health Canada’s Marijuana for Medical Purposes Regulations (MMPR). The Peachland company is looking to start as an agricultural pharmaceutical business with a 6,000 square foot building which would include two floors of manufacturing space.
”Potanicals Green Growers Inc. is a highly secure, high technological facility designed to protect against contaminants and to be a model of sustainability in reducing waste, recycling, and conserving water and energy,” said Geoff White, point person for Quality Assurance. “We are developing innovative and intensive systems for disease-free, genetically uniform plants along with extensive tracking to predict constant harvesting and optimum freshness for our product.”
According to Potanical Green Growers, the high security of the growing facility exceeds those standards set by Health Canada that demand a strict security regimen including a bank-style vault and 24-hour surveillance inside and outside of the building.
“These measures are embraced despite the fact that patients (customers) do not attend on site nor pick up their medicine. Rather the facility is closed to the public, with orders for medicine to be fulfilled by courier or registered mail,” adds White.
The company is looking to gain recognition as a forerunner in pharmaceutical farming in the region best known for producing fruit and wine. The company has been working closely with the Regional District of the Central Okanagan and local authorities to be prepared strategically to proceed as approval is received federally from Health Canada.
