More bad news out of Lillooet.
The municipality’s hospital is set to be without its emergency department from 7 am today till 8 am on Saturday.
That’s another 49-hour window in which the people of Lillooet and the surrounding area will have to head to Kamloops for care.
The hospital has been repeatedly closed this year due to staff shortages.
Interior Health said other inpatient services at the hospital will still be available.
In a bulletin sent out last night, it added: “People in the community who need life-threatening emergency care (i.e., chest pains, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding) should always call 911 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility.
“Anyone unsure whether an emergency room visit is warranted can call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1, or visit www.HealthLinkBC.ca for non-emergency health information from nurses, dietitians and pharmacists 24 hours a day, seven days per week.”
Interior Health told NowMedia last month that it "shares the concerns felt by the community about recent service interruptions and is committed to bringing new physicians to Lillooet."
