The latest numbers from Statistics Canada show that the annual pace of inflation rose to 1.9% in June. It’s a hike from 1.7% in May, but was largely in line with economists’ expectations. The removal of the consumer carbon price continues to dampen the annual price comparisons, as the inflation rate was 2.7% if you exclude energy.

India police say Fauja Singh was killed in a hit and run on Monday. He was 114 years old. Singh was known as the world’s oldest marathon runner, still competing after turning 100 more than a decade ago. He earned the nickname “Turbaned Tornado” after taking up marathon running in his late 80s.

A woman convicted in a high-profile BC murder has had her day parole revoked due to drug use. The Parole Board of Canada says Kerry Sim, known as Kelly Ellard when she killed Victoria teen Reena Virk in 1997, breached her conditions to abstain from drugs.

Baseball fans were treated to dozens of big dingers on Monday night as the 2025 Home Run Derby took place in Atlanta. Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh lifted the trophy after beating Tampa Bay Rays youngster Junior Caminero in the final. The MLB All-Star Game will be played tonight and the second half of the season will begin on Friday.

An NYPD transit drone team caught four people riding on top of an express train last week. The boys range from 12 to 16 in age. Police say it’s the 200th subway surfing arrest since November 2023 and it came less than a week after a 15-year-old boy was killed trying to ride on top of a train in Queens.
