1. Judge rules Omar Khadr's war crimes sentence has expired

An Alberta judge ruled on Monday that an eight-year war crimes sentence for former Guantanamo Bay prisoner Omar Khadr has expired. Khadr was asking to have the three and a half years remaining on his 2010 youth sentence to be reduced to one day as he awaits a decision in his U.S. appeal. Khadr was sentenced after killing an American soldier during a firefight in Afghanistan when he was 15.

2. Apple has announced its rival to Netflix

Launching this fall, Apple TV+ looks to compete directly with video streaming services such as Netflix and Amazon Prime Video. Apple TV+ will come with a fresh batch of original content, with programming from well-known entertainment talent including a new series from Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon called The Morning Show.

3. Conor McGregor announces sudden retirement

In a short message, McGregor said he is retiring from MMA, adding: “I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.” Some fans are pointing out that McGregor also announced his retirement in 2016.

4. Justin Bieber says he's taking a break from music

Canadian pop-star Justin Bieber says there is no new album in the works. The 25-year-old took to Twitter to address a wave of questions from fans about new music. Bieber has recently been outspoken about his struggles with depression.

5. Alex Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals visit the White House

The reigning NHL champions team met with US President Donald Trump on Monday. However, a couple members of the hockey team, including goalie Braden Holtby, decided not to attend.
