2. European countries to formally recognize Palestinian state

Ireland, Spain and Norway have announced they will formally recognize Palestine as a state next week. Israel, which has been fighting a war with Palestinian terrorist organization Hamas since it was attacked on Oct. 7 last year, has reacted angrily to the news.

"Today, Ireland, Norway and Spain are announcing that we recognise the state of Palestine."

3. Dismay for conservationists as flamingos struck by plane

Conservationists have expressed concern after dozens of flamingos were killed by a passenger plane in India this week. The colourful avians were struck by an Emirates aircraft, which was able to land safely.

4. Fish oil supplements might actually be bad for you, researchers claim

In the latest instalment of "a new study shows things you thought were healthy might actually kill you," researchers have claimed that regularly taking fish oil supplements could increase the risk of stroke and atrial fibrillation. The study, which has been published in the British Medical Journal, is based on data from more than 415,000 people in the UK.

5. Canadian news outlets feeling the pinch as Facebook news ban stretches on

Canadian Press has interviewed an illustrious British Columbia journalist about the devastating effects of Meta's decision to block news on Facebook and Instagram. It comes after research from the Media Ecosystem Observatory found both national and local news outlets in Canada have lost more than half of all engagement they previously generated through Facebook.
