The Halton Regional Police Service is investigating the death of a three-year-old boy after he was pulled from a backyard pool in Oakville, Ont. on Saturday. Emergency responders were called to the scene around 7 pm. Police said there had been a celebratory gathering at the private residence and the child had gone underwater and undetected for an undetermined amount of time.

Melbourne was shaken by a rare and shallow earthquake, its largest in 120 years, late Sunday night. Although it swayed buildings, there was ultimately very little damage done by the tremor. The magnitude-3.8 quake was the largest since a magnitude-4.5 quake hit the area in 1902.

A dramatic shootout between a bus driver and passenger on a moving bus in Charlotte was caught by surveillance footage earlier this month. Police say the incident happened after the passenger requested to be let off between stops and the driver said no. Following a two-minute exchange, the passenger allegedly pulled out a gun and the driver did the same. They then fired on each other in “rapid succession” and each suffered gunshot wounds.

The second Grand Slam tournament of the year in tennis is underway. The French Open kicked off at Roland Garros on Sunday and unfortunately, one of Canada’s top players has already been knocked out. Felix Auger-Aliassime was eliminated in straight sets today, as was BC’s Rebecca Marino on the women’s side. Denis Shapovalov, Leylah Fernandez and Bianca Andreescu are the only Canadians left in the field.

How’s this for a truly Canadian moment? A mother moose and her baby stopped traffic on the Yellowhead Highway earlier this month as the calf was unable to get over the road’s middle barrier. It was all caught on camera by a driver who was forced to stop for the animals and he even caught the brave, and stupid, actions of another motorist on video as well. The two moose eventually give up on crossing and leave the road the other way.
