Start your day off right with five things you need to know this morning.

Five things you need to know

1. Trudeau's immigration minister says 'not everyone is welcome' in Canada

Immigration Minister Marc Miller has said "not everyone is welcome" in Canada amid discussions about how the country can deal with an expected northward flow of illegal migrants from the US in reaction to Donald Trump's plan to oversee a major deportation program. It comes as a new poll finds that the majority of Canadians – 56 per cent – want Canada to take in fewer refugees.

2. Trump's expected national security adviser praised Poilievre, attacked Trudeau in past

The man expected to serve as Donald Trump's national security adviser – one of the most influential roles in the White House – has previously attacked Justin Trudeau and praised Pierre Poilievre, his social media posts show. In one post earlier this year, Mike Waltz wrote that Poilievre "is going to send Trudeau packing in 2025" and "start digging Canada out of the progressive mess it's in."

3. Ontario premier attacks Mexico over Chinese cars

The premier of Canada's largest province has criticized Mexico as the renegotiation of the USMCA North American free trade deal lingers on the horizon. Ontario's Doug Ford claimed Mexico had "allowed itself to become a backdoor for Chinese cars," adding: "Free trade needs to be fair."

4. Anglican Church head resigns over handling of child abuse

The head of the Anglican Church has resigned after a damning report into a child abuser associated with the institution. Justin Welby, who has long been controversial due to his supposed agitation for left-wing political causes, said of his resignation: "I pray that this decision points us back towards the love that Jesus Christ has for every one of us."

5. Dozens killed after 'vicious attack' on crowd in China

Dozens of people have been killed and dozens more injured after a man drove an SUV into a crowd of people in China. Officials said the driver, a 62-year-old, crashed into the people, who were exercising, as part of a "vicious attack."
