1. Trump's 'czar' says Canada border an 'extreme national security vulnerability' for US

The man selected to serve as Donald Trump's "border czar" has said the US border with Canada represents an "extreme national security vulnerability." Tom Homan, who was born about an hour's drive from the border, said he expects to have "tough conversations" with Ottawa when he gets into the saddle in January, adding: "There has to be an understanding from Canada that they can't be a gateway to terrorists coming into the United States."


2. Trump to meet Biden in Washington as Musk given 'DOGE' role

In more Trump news, the president-elect is set to meet with President Joe Biden today in what is sure to be a much-scrutinized encounter. Trump has also revealed his appointment of Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy to lead the "Department of Government Efficiency."


3. High school principal apologizes after Palestinian protest song played at Remembrance Day event

In another instance of a Canadian school disgracing itself on Remembrance Day, the principal of Sir Robert Borden High School in Ottawa has apologized for playing a Palestinian protest song during an event to commemorate the sacrifices of Canadian veterans. Aaron Hobbs reportedly justified the move at the time by making a remark about race, claiming that Remembrance Day is usually about "a white guy who has done something related to the military.”


4. With both Democrats and Republicans against it, Ottawa's digital services tax is in trouble: report

US-Canada relations could be about to get even testier as the Biden Administration is set to decide whether to proceed with arbitration over Justin Trudeau's controversial digital services tax. Biden's trade representative has argued the three per cent levy unfairly hurts US tech corporations.


5. Office star named 'Sexiest Man Alive'

Jim from The Office has been named People magazine's "Sexiest Man Alive." The 45-year-old said he had "zero thoughts" about the accolade.
