Two 13-year-old girls have been charged with assault with a weapon after a stabbing incident north of Toronto Saturday night. Police were called to a fast-food restaurant around 8 pm for reports of a disturbance involving a group of youths. Before officers could arrive, a fight ensued and a teenaged girl was stabbed, allegedly by the 13-year-olds. The victim reportedly suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

Clean-up has begun in Atlantic Canada in the wake of post-tropical storm Lee, which was a hurricane over open waters before downgrading as it made landfall over the weekend. Tens of thousands lost power in Halifax and the storm caused plenty of property damage, but there were no reported injuries or loss of life.

One person has been detained in connection to the murder of a Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy, who was shot to death in his patrol car over the weekend. Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer, 30, was shot Saturday while on duty at an intersection near the sheriff’s station in Palmdale. He had gotten engaged just four days earlier.
