Wear a jersey today to honour the Humboldt Broncos

As the country still reels from Friday night’s fatal bus crash involving the Humboldt Broncos hockey team, a group of B.C. hockey moms have planned a nationwide tribute.

They’ve planned a jersey day for today, with hopes that people from every part of the country will wear a sports jersey to show support and send love to Humboldt.

Jennifer Pinch of Langley is one of the hockey moms leading this charge and she was on Roundhouse Radio in Vancouver to talk about the tragic crash and the idea for a jersey day.

“I just can’t imagine...losing my 16-year-old son, my little hockey player, my little rising star,” Pinch said. “Those bright shining lights on that bus that day, it’s just so tragic.”

Pinch explained that wearing jerseys on Thursday is a small gesture, but one that shows the families directly affected by the tragedy that the country is behind them.

“We’ve gotten messages now from China, Australia, England, all over the United States, Mexico, we’re just beyond excited our little message is getting so much coverage,” said Pinch.

“If everyone could just take a picture wearing a jersey, any jersey, and hashtag it, post it on social media, so when those families and those communities are ready they can have a look and see who was standing behind them during this tragedy.”

The hashtag Pinch is referring to is #JerseyForHumboldt and it’ll surely be trending all day today, so grab your favourite jersey and wear it with pride!
