Alleged kidnapping in Kamloops becomes police incident in Kelowna

It’s now been revealed that a pair of notable police incidents in Kamloops and Kelowna on Thursday were connected.

The ordeal started early on Thursday morning, when two men and a woman were robbed by a pair of armed men in Kamloops.

After the robbery, police believed the suspects kidnapped the woman and fled in a stolen vehicle belonging to one of the other victims.

Officers were led to a residence on Dallas Drive, where they secured the area and ultimately determined that the home had been ransacked and was now empty.

Police then located the victim’s empty stolen vehicle in an area near Barnhartvale Road and Hwy 97.

The investigation then led police to Kelowna, where a number of police cars and even armoured vehicles converged on a residence in the 1100 block of Bernard Avenue.

One of the robbery suspects was arrested, but the victim who was alleged to have been kidnapped wasn’t located at the address.

This morning, police determined that the captive woman could be in a vehicle travelling back to Kamloops from Kelowna.

RCMP stopped the vehicle near Falkland and located the uninjured woman inside.

A man and woman were both arrested at the scene and police seized firearms from the vehicle as well.

“First and foremost, our concern was for the woman who had been kidnapped,” stated Cpl. Jodi Shelkie of the Kamloops RCMP.

“The danger that she was in cannot be overemphasized. Officers knew that the suspects were armed. It was unknown what their intent was regarding her life.”

According to Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey of the Kelowna RCMP, the “dynamic” police incident is now considered concluded with four people arrested and the vehicle being seized.

The investigation is ongoing and the RCMP say it’s clear this was a targeted crime involving participants in the Kamloops drug trade.
