Another BC Interior ER forced to shut down overnight

Another BC Interior emergency department has been forced to close.

This time it’s 100 Mile House that’s affected.

Interior Health said the municipality’s ER will reopen at 7 am today. It closed at 9 pm on Sunday.

Those in need of urgent care were told to head to Williams Lake or Kamloops.

Interior Health added: “People in the community who need life-threatening emergency care (i.e., chest pains, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding) should always call 911 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility.

“Anyone unsure whether an emergency room visit is warranted can call HealthLink BC at 811, or visit www.HealthLinkBC.ca for non-emergency health information from nurses, dietitians and pharmacists 24 hours a day, seven days per week.”

The health authority did not explain why the ER was forced to close down, but NowMedia has been told in the past that the cause is almost always a lack of staff.
