The BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) has launched an investigation into a collision that closed the Coquihalla Highway for roughly 12 hours Monday night.
The BCHP attended to a report of a multi-vehicle collision south of the Great Bear snowshed between Hope and Merritt shortly after 2 pm on July 10.
Personnel from Commercial Vehicle Safety Enforcement, fire rescue, and BC Emergency Health Services also attended the scene.
Three passenger vehicles and a commercial semi-truck were involved in the accident in the southbound lanes.
Initial evidence shows that the semi-truck was pulling a loaded trailer and collided with the three passenger vehicles due to “heavy traffic and construction in the area,” says Cpl. Mike Moore with the BCHP.
Fortunately, the accident was not fatal.
One occupant was transported to the hospital by air-ambulance with serious injuries while another sustained minor injuries.
The driver of the semi-truck was non hurt during the collision.
No other information will be provided as the investigation is in the very early stages, however, potential charges under the Criminal Code or BC Motor Vehicle Act have not been ruled out.
Anyone with information on the accident, including people who witnessed the collision or have dash cam footage are asked to contact the Chilliwack branch of the BCHP at (604) 702-4039.
