Mounties in southeast BC removed two vehicles with “serious” defects from the road in two separate traffic stops last month.
According to a release, officers with the Trail and Greater District RCMP stopped a 36-year-old Christina Lake man on Mar. 20 at about 12:40 am because his vehicle, which was making a “high pitch” screeching noise.
When officers inspected the vehicle, they found that the brake system required a safety inspection and issued the mana notice.
According to the release, the vehicle was also uninsured and the licence plates allegedly did not belong to the vehicle.
The man was issued $707 in fines for no insurance and wrong number plate, the release says.
About 10 hours later, officers stopped a 32-year-old Trail man who was sitting in his parked vehicle in downtown Trail.
According to the release, the officer detained the driver and vehicle roadside after noticing it appeared to have “several” defects to the body including “serious” structural integrity issues to the body, broken suspension and illegally modified headlights.
The vehicle was inspected and immediately removed from the road.
“Police officers can issue inspection notices for your vehicle when it becomes a safety risk to others on the road," says Sgt. Wicentowich.
“It can be to fix a single defect such as a burnout headlight, or to removing your vehicle from the road immediately due to serious safety concerns with how the vehicle is operating.”
