BC backcountry search underway for 26-year-old who's been missing for months

An extensive search is underway in the remote mountains of Pemberton, BC for Marshal Iwaasa.

The 26-year-old was last seen by his mother on Nov.17 in his hometown of Lethbridge, Alta., and hasn’t been heard from since despite telling his family he planned to return home.

Last November, hikers discovered a burnt-out truck the belonged to Iwaasa in the backcountry of Pemberton and police consider his disappearance to be suspicious.

On Thursday, RCMP, search and rescue personnel, members of the Canadian Search and Disaster Dogs Association and Iwaasa's family kicked off a comprehensive ground search of the area where his truck was found.

Investigators say there have been several reported sightings of Iwaasa across the country but they were unfounded.
