A teenager and his dog were rescued from a “harrowing” fall over an embankment this week.
Search and rescue volunteers in the Elko area responded to a report of the duo going over a steep embankment Monday night.
A dozen local firefighters and seven SAR members responded alongside RCMP officers and paramedics.
Elk Valley & South Country Rural Fire and Rescue Chief Michael Hockley says the youth fell “several” hundred feet down the slope and was beyond the team’s rope rescue capability.
“Search and Rescue was dispatched out of Fernie and worked through the night until around 4am to get the patient and his dog up safely up the bank,” says Hockley.
The youth sustained “multiple” injuries, but none were life-threatening, says the SAR team in a statement.
After being pulled from the slope, the youth was transported to the hospital for medical assessment.
