Boat owner seriously injured after intervening during theft attempt at BC Interior lake

A failed attempt to steal a boat at Adams Lake in the Shuswap left the boat’s rightful owner with serious injuries over the weekend.

The Barriere RCMP responded to the incident at a boat launch on the west side of Adams Lake on Saturday.

According to police, a pair of men in an older truck tried to steal the boat, but the owner intervened.

While the owner was successful in preventing the theft of their boat, an RCMP statement said he was unfortunately dragged “several metres” and suffered serious injuries.

“The suspects weren’t able to leave with the boat, and RCMP hope witnesses will come forward,” said Cpl. James Grandy, BC RCMP spokesperson.

“Given the suspect’s vehicle was unique and had been parked at the Adams Lake boat launch on a busy day, we’re hoping someone may have seen it.”

No information was provided on the two suspects, but police did give this description of their truck:

  • Older model, possibly Ford
  • Grey/blue colour
  • Flat deck
  • Wooden panels on each side

Anyone with information about this incident, or the truck in question, can contact Cpl. Kyle Camalush at the Barriere RCMP by calling 250-672-9918.
