A speeding habit is bound to catch up to you.
That’s the message from the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP) after nabbing a “repeat speeder” going 148 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Hwy 3 near Salmo last week.
The 31-year-old Nelson man was pulled over shortly before 6:30 am on Thursday, May 14, after being pulled over by an on-duty BCHP officer.

The clarification of the officer being on-duty is because, according to the BCHP, the same vehicle had been seen speeding in the same spot at the same time over multiple days by an off-duty officer.
“Even when we’re off duty, we still care about public safety. This speeding vehicle could not be ignored,” explained Cpl. Michael McLaughlin.
“The BCHP uses statistics, data from partner agencies and reports from the public to develop enforcement intelligence about high-risk driving, but sometimes our eyeballs will do the trick.”
The driver was handed an excessive speeding ticket for $368 and a $109 illegal window tint violation, along with notice and order to get the window fixed and display a front license plate.
Both the driver and his vehicle were escorted back to town by a tow truck, and the BCHP says the costs associated with the tow, impound and insurance premiums will cost the man over $2,500 by the time all is said and done.
