An Alberta woman’s attempt to flee from police along the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) ended after 150 kilometres on Monday.
She was originally reported to police after a member of the public saw her driving erratically in a new Ford F350 pickup in Chase around 12:15 am.
A Salmon Arm RCMP officer spotted the 28-year-old Red Deer woman half an hour later and tried to conduct a traffic stop in Tappen.
However, the woman didn’t stop and fled at a high rate of speed, eastbound on Hwy 1.
Around 1:30 am, Revelstoke RCMP officers were notified that the suspect vehicle was entering their area of jurisdiction.
Taking a number of factors into consideration, Revelstoke and Sicamous RCMP officers once again tried to pull the truck over, but had to resort to additional measures.
“A tire deflation device was successfully deployed after the suspect refused to stop for our officers yet again,” said Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.
The spike belt punctured one of the wheels of the vehicle, which eventually came to a stop east of the city.”
Once the car was forcefully stopped, the woman was brought into custody without incident.
“Investigators determined that the woman was bound by a release order, with a condition which stipulated that she must not be found behind the steering wheel of any motor vehicle without its owner present,” explained an RCMP release.
The woman now faces a number of charges.
