I’ve owned two Golden retrievers in my life, both of which brought me more happiness than I thought possible. Although they are no longer with us, seeing a golden on the street always brings a smile to my face. This fall, an event is coming to Golden, hoping to capture this joy.
Western Canada’s Biggest Golden Retriever Meetup is coming to Golden, with organizers planning a day dedicated to golden retrievers and the people who love them.
The Golden Tails Gathering is set for Saturday, September 26, 2026, at the Golden Riverfront Campground. Gates will open at 11 am, with activities running throughout the day until 4 pm.

Organizer Andrea said the inspiration behind the event is simple. “We love goldens,” she said, noting she owns two herself and is part of a large community of golden retriever owners. “We wanted to create something fun where people and their dogs could connect.”
Beyond celebrating the breed, the event also aims to give back. Proceeds will support dog rescue efforts, with donations planned for both a local organization and a provincial or national non-profit.
Golden retrievers remain one of the most commonly owned dog breeds in Canada, and while similar gatherings exist around the world, events of this kind are rare in Western Canada. Organizers say Golden is a natural fit to host such a festival.
The day will feature a range of activities for both dogs and their owners. Highlights include a vendor village with pet products and artisan goods, an off-leash adventure area, and a swimming pond where dogs can cool off. A professional “pawtrait” photo booth with a fall-themed backdrop will be available, along with a selfie station for more casual snapshots.
Food trucks, a live DJ, and designated socializing zones will round out the experience, creating a festival atmosphere focused on community and connection.

A full schedule of stage events is also planned. The day will begin with opening remarks at 11 am, followed by a costume contest, group photo sessions known as “The Big Sit,” and interactive activities such as a swimming showcase and agility demonstrations. A “Top Model” contest in the afternoon will give dogs a chance to show off their personality before closing remarks wrap up the event.
While all dog breeds are welcome to attend, organizers note that dogs must remain leashed, and only golden retrievers will be included in official group photos.
Local businesses, photographers, food vendors, and non-profit organizations are encouraged to get involved, with opportunities to participate available through the event’s organizers.
Registration details are expected to be announced soon.
With its mix of community spirit, charitable goals, and lighthearted fun, the Golden Tails Gathering is shaping up to be a standout fall event. If you are a Golden lover, the dog or the place, come support this event this fall.
