Both the RCMP and Transportation Safety Board of Canada are investigating the circumstances that led to a glider aircraft crashing in a remote area outside Invermere.
The accident happened on Friday night and the Columbia Valley RCMP were notified around 6:45 pm.
After the glider went down in a remote area near Pedley Pass, the pilot of a second glider flying in the area made the discovery and reported the crash site.
Columbia Valley Search and Rescue made it to the crash scene and managed to remove the pilot from the cockpit.
The Kelowna man, who’s in his 70s, was breathing and attended to by a physician on the CVSR team before being rushed to hospital with serious injuries.
He’s since been airlifted in critical condition to a larger centre for further medical treatment.
The investigation into the accident is ongoing and the RCMP is asking anyone who witnessed anything connected to the incident to contact the Columbia Valley RCMP at 250-342-9292.
