More sad news for the people of Lillooet.
The emergency room at the Lillooet Hospital and Health Centre has been shut down yet again.
This time, emergency care has been unavailable since 7 pm on Tuesday and will become available again at 8 am today.
Interior Health said in a bulletin that other services at the hospital are unaffected.
Anyone in need of emergency care has been told to head to Kamloops.
The health authority added: “People in the community who need life-threatening emergency care (i.e., chest pains, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding) should always call 911 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility.
“Anyone unsure whether an emergency room visit is warranted can call HealthLink BC at 8-1-1, or visit www.HealthLinkBC.ca for non-emergency health information from nurses, dietitians and pharmacists 24 hours a day, seven days per week.”
The hospital at Lillooet has been the worst-hit in the BC Interior so far this year, with regular closures of its emergency department.
Interior Health did not specify why the closure occurred, but has in the past told NowMedia that such closures are almost always due to staff shortages.
