(UPDATE: Feb. 27 @ 3:55 pm) - Police have tracked down and arrested a second suspect in connection to an explosion at a Trail motel earlier this month.
The explosion happened inside a room at the Glenwood Inn around 10:30 pm on Saturday, Feb. 10, and resulted in the arrest of a 48-year-old man.
At the time, the RCMP said officers were still on the hunt for a second suspect in connection to the explosion and the search for him came to an end late last week.
According to police, 33-year-old Ryan Harp of Grand Forks was arrested without incident on Friday, Feb. 23.
Sgt. Mike Wicentowich said the Trail RCMP continues to prioritize this investigation and noted that Harp, who is being held in custody, faces the following charges:
(Original story: Feb. 13 @ 3:25 pm) - One man is in custody and police are looking for another suspect following an explosion at a Trail motel room.
Emergency crews responded to the explosion inside a room at the Glenwood Inn around 10:30 pm on Saturday, Feb. 10.
The blast started a fire in an adjacent room, which had to be evacuated, but there were no reported injuries.
“A search of the room where the explosion occurred uncovered firearms and ammunition,” noted an RCMP release.
Officers at the scene found a 48-year-old man nearby who was believed to be associated with the room.
He was arrested and is now facing a number of charges related to firearm offences.
Police continue their search for a second suspect, who is described as a Caucasian man in his 30s with dark hair, brown eyes and likely has burn injuries.
The cause of the explosion remains under investigation.
