(Original story: June 3 @ 9:30 am) - The lengthy search for a missing Merritt man has seemingly come to a tragic end.
On Monday night, Elijah Mack-Stirling took to social media to share the news that his brother Miguel Mack’s body had been found.
“This is not the outcome any of us had hoped for,” Elijah wrote. “Please keep our family in your thoughts as we navigate this unimaginable loss.”
Miguel was 24 years old when he was reported missing on March 3, 2023, four days after he was last seen on Feb. 27, 2023.
It sparked an extensive search of Merritt and the surrounding area, with several police agencies, family and friends unsuccessful in their efforts to find the missing young man.
Around three weeks after Miguel was reported missing, the RCMP informed the public that criminality was suspected in his disappearance.
Most recently, on Feb. 27, 2025, police marked the two years since Miguel went missing with another appeal to the public for information.
“There are people out there with knowledge of Miguel Mack’s disappearance and we are asking those individuals to come forward and contact the police,” said Insp. Brent Novakoski said at the time.
Elijah said that funeral arrangements will be shared in the coming days and expressed gratitude to the many people who aided in the search for his brother.
“We want to thank everyone who shared information, searched, prayed and supported our family during this heartbreaking time,” he said. “Your kindness and care meant so much to us.”
