BC’s Ministry of Transportation says the replacement of the Nicomen Bridge on the Trans-Canada Highway through the Fraser Canyon is now finished.
The bridge was one of many that were damaged during the November 2021 floods that impacted highways 1, 3 and 5 as well as several communities.
Eighteen sites were affected and temporary repairs were finished in January 2022 and permanent repairs began in fall 2022.
On Thursday, the province announced that the new two-lane Nicomen River Bridge, which is 19 km south of Spences Bridge, is now ready for travellers.
“Crews have added deep foundations, reinforced the embankment to prevent erosion and rehabilitated pavement on the bridge approaches, ensuring the structure’s long-term durability,” the province said in a news release.
The temporary single-lane bridge has since been removed and some minor work, including erosion mitigation and equipment removal, will continue throughout December.
That minor work could cause some single-lane alternating traffic and delays of 15 minutes.
