Police have confirmed that a plane crash near the Lillooet airport on Wednesday was fatal.
Emergency crews were notified about the crash involving a small bush plane around 5:15 pm.
Upon arrival, first responders found the pilot, who was the lone occupant of the plane, unconscious and suffering from a life-threatening injury.
“The pilot was extracted from the plane and while lifesaving efforts were immediately made, the pilot was pronounced deceased at the scene,” an RCMP release said.
According to the Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB), the plane was a privately-registered Bushmaster Super 22 aircraft.
The TSB deployed a team of investigators to Lillooet on Thursday to “gather information and assess the occurrence,” a release from the government agency explained.
As always, the TSB will not assign fault or determine civil or criminal liability, but members will investigate the incident with an aim to advance transportation safety.
