Police nab teen doing 196 km/h on BC Interior highway, nearly 100 km/h over limit

The Kimberley RCMP has gone public with two cases of excessive speeding in hopes that it helps remind people to slow down this summer.

Both incidents happened on Hwy 95A, south of Marysville, and involved drivers on very opposite ends of the age spectrum.

On Friday, June 14, a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old was nabbed going 196 km/h.

On Monday, June 17, it was an 85-year-old driver who was stopped by police while going 152 km/h.

The speed limit on the highway is 100 km/h.

As a result of their excessive speeding, which is anything more than 40 km/h over the speed limit, both drivers were issued hefty fines and had their vehicles impounded for seven days.
