Mounties in the Kootenays continue to investigate a head-on crash near Cranbrook that claimed the life of a 64-year-old woman on Boxing Day.
They’re now turning to the public in hopes of advancing the investigation with additional witness accounts.
The fatal crash happened shortly after 7:30 pm on Dec. 26, 2024, on Hwy 3/95 near Stropky Road, just southwest of Crabrook.
According to the BC Highway Patrol (BCHP), a southbound Cadillac Escalade collided with a northbound Honda CRV.
The driver of the CRV and two passengers in the Escalade were “seriously hurt” in the crash, while the CRV’s lone passenger, a 64-year-old Grand Forks woman, was killed.
“This was the second fatal collision in less than a week in the winter conditions near Cranbrook,” said Cpl. Michael McLaughlin. “Please everyone, slow down and make sure you are driving sober and without any distractions.”
The RCMP says the cause of the fatal crash remains under investigation, but neither speed or impairment have been ruled out.
“The BCHP is asking anyone who saw the events leading up to this collision to speak with us about what happened,” added McLaughlin. “We are especially interested in any dash camera video.”
Anyone with information that could help advance the investigation into this incident is urged to contact the BCHP Cranbrook branch at 250-420-4244.
