After a long, extensive backcountry search, police have suspended efforts to find a missing man in the Kootenay wilderness.
Camden Guille-Sikora, 39, was reported missing to the Nelson RCMP on Aug. 14, 2025, but hadn’t been seen since nearly four weeks earlier on July 20.
According to police, it wasn’t unusual for Guille-Sikora to be gone for several days at a time, but there was growing concern for his wellbeing after several weeks without contact.
There was no luck finding him through 10 days, but the case took a significant turn on Aug. 24 when Guille-Sikora’s vehicle was found abandoned at the Jumbo Pass trailhead on the Glacier Creek Forest Service Road.
From that point on, Kaslo Search and Rescue, with help from neighbouring search and rescue teams, focused an exhaustive search on that area of wilderness.
They used ground search teams, dogs, drones, helicopters and more to scour backcountry hiking areas like the Jumbo Moraine Trail and Jumbo Pass Mountain.
Unfortunately, those efforts, and a review of trail camera footage provided by K’tunaxa First Nation council, were unsuccessful and Guille-Sikora has not been found.
As a result, the search has officially been suspended.
"Considering multiple factors, including the time missing and the area he’s believed to be in, this is tragically now likely a recovery, not a rescue, and we would ask the public not to endanger their own personal safety in order to continue the search," explained S/Sgt. Kris Clark through a media release.
"However, experienced and prepared backcountry users should be aware that Camden is believed to be in the area and are asked to mark and report any signs they might encounter on their adventures."
Guille-Sikora is described as a 39-year-old Caucasian man who stands 5’9” and is 161 pounds with blonde hair and blue eyes.
