(UPDATE: April 19 @ 10 am) - DriveBC reports that the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) is now partially open east of Golden.
The route has single-lane alternating traffic in place, which means significant delays should be expected due to congestion.
After a scheduled overnight closure due to construction, the highway didn't reopen at 7 am MDT as planned this morning because rocks fell on the road.
DriveBC did not provide an estimate on when full access through the Kicking Horse Canyon would be restored, but predicted the next update would come this afternoon.

Hwy 1 is currently shut down in both directions east of Golden and DriveBC says it’s due to “rocks on the road.”
The issue is reportedly between Golden Donald Upper Road and Yoho Bridge.
As is the case during planned closures of the route, travellers can use Hwy 95 and Hwy 93S to detour through Radium Hot Springs.
An assessment is in progress, but there’s currently no estimated time for the highway to reopen.
NowMedia will update this story as more information becomes available.
