Routine stop at gas station ends with $1M lotto win for Merritt man

Most people leave the gas station feeling a little lighter in the wallet, but that wasn’t the case for Marshall Charles Wilson.

During a routine stop at the gas station, the Merritt resident decided to check several of his lottery tickets using the self-scanner.

When Wilson scanned one from the Lotto 6/49 draw on Jan. 1, 2025, he was pleasantly surprised to learn that he had won $1 million.

The first person he shared the life-changing news with was his son.

“He didn’t believe it, but he was very happy for me,” Wilson explained.

With the money now deposited in Wilson's bank account, he plans to make some upgrades to his home, take care of his wife and save the rest for retirement.

The ticket was both purchased and verified at the Shell station on De Wolf Way in Merritt.
