Snowfall and winter storm warnings in place for BC Interior highways

Winter weather is expected to continue hampering BC Interior highways this morning.

Snowfall warnings remain in place for the Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) through Eagle Pass and Rogers Pass, as well as for Hwy 3 through Manning Park.

Meanwhile, a winter storm warning is still in effect for the Coquihalla Highway (Hwy 5).

“Heavy snow this morning will adversely impact travel conditions across high elevation travel routes,” explains Environment Canada.

“Be prepared to adjust your driving with changing road conditions. Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow.”

For all three major routes, the snow is expected to taper off by this afternoon.

At this time, there are no unplanned closures on any BC Interior highways, although Hwy 1 is closed west of Revelstoke for avalanche control until 8 am.

Another planned closure will take place on Hwy 1 east of Golden later this morning from 9-11 am PT.
