Some BC Interior residents told to travel 1 hour north for emergency care

Residents in a small town in the BC Interior will be without an emergency department until Sunday morning

Interior Health announced Saturday afternoon that 100 Mile House and area residents will need to travel to Williams Lake for emergency care.

That is about an hour drive north.

The 100 Mile House District General Hospital’s emergency department will be closed from 6 pm Saturday until 8 am on Sunday.

All other inpatient services will continue as normal, however.

“People in the community who need life-threatening emergency care (i.e., chest pains, difficulty breathing, severe bleeding) should always call 9-1-1 for transport to the nearest available and appropriate facility,” IH said.

This is the hospital’s fourth temporary closure of the month.

The most recent pair of closures happened on Aug. 4 and Aug. 3.
