Two suspects are in custody following what police believe to have been a targeted shooting in Sicamous late Sunday afternoon.
According to the Sicamous RCMP, both suspects are “known to RCMP” in Alberta.
Police rushed to the scene of the shooting in the 300 block of Mara Lane around 4 pm after receiving a report of shots fired near a condo building.
Officers spoke with witnesses who stated that the suspects fled the scene in a white SUV prior to police arrival.
The RCMP then determined that the intended target of the shooting, who had also fled the scene in another vehicle, was a Sicamous man who is also known to police.
That man was located unharmed, but his truck, which was riddled with bullet holes, was seized as part of the investigation.
A description of the suspect vehicle was broadcasted to neighbouring RCMP detachments and members in Salmon Arm spotted it approaching Canoe from the east.
Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the SUV did not pull over and the vehicle was later found abandoned near the Trans-Canada Highway in Canoe.
Police dogs were dispatched along with the Emergency Response Team and the suspects were tracked down in a residential area of Canoe.
"A shooting in a residential area during midday is alarming,” noted Sgt. Murray MacNeil. “However, this was an isolated targeted incident with both suspects in police custody.”
The incident remains under police investigation.
