Trucker who died in Sicamous bridge incident identified as 25-year-old

On Sunday, a semi was pulled out of the water below the RW Bruhn Bridge in Sicamous.

Inside the commercial vehicle was the body of its driver, who has now been identified through a GoFundMe as 25-year-old Raminderjeet Singh.

Singh was behind the wheel of the truck from Mountain Peak Transport in Abbotsford when it drove through the bridge’s guard rail and plunged into the water 18 metres below early Saturday morning.

According to the RCMP, an investigation has found that Singh’s truck struck the west end of the bridge as it descended down the hill heading eastbound.

It then struck the curb on the bridge’s north side before crossing the bridge deck, busting through the railing and falling into the channel below.

Although there has been online speculation that a westbound car driving on the wrong side of the road caused Singh to crash off the bridge, the RCMP said that “evidence collected confirms no other vehicle(s) contributed to this collision.”

The GoFundMe created by fellow truck driver Cynthia Caglayan says she is raising funds to assist Singh’s family in this difficult time.

She explained that his devastated parents are in India and his sister is in Australia, and they are working on sorting out the logistics around their “monumental loss.”

“It has not been decided if (Singh’s sister and parents) will be travelling to Canada or if

Raminderjeet’s body will be flown home so his last rights will take place in India,” Caglayan said.

According to Caglayan, Singh died doing what he loved – driving.

The fundraiser has collected around $27,000 as of Tuesday morning and has a goal of raising $50,000.
