Violent North Okanagan offender Curtis Sagmoen found dead in Vernon motel

More details on the death of Curtis Sagmoen, a man with a violent record in the North Okanagan, have been released by police.

“On April 10, 2025, frontline officers from the Vernon North Okanagan RCMP responded to a sudden death at a motel in Vernon where a man was found unresponsive in one of the units,” wrote Cpl. Tania Finn, when asked about the details of Sagmoen’s death.

“Police confirmed the identity of the deceased as a 44-year-old man from Salmon Arm. The police investigation determined no criminality is suspected in the death.”

Finn added that the BC Coroners Service is conducting an independent and concurrent fact-finding investigation to determine “how, where, when and by what means the individual came to their unexpected death.”

The RCMP and BC Coroners Service do not plan to release any more information at this time.

In 2017, the remains of 18-year-old Traci Genereaux were found on a 24-acre farm property where Sagmoen lived at the time. A family member of Genereaux confirmed with NowMedia that police informed them of Sagmoen’s death on Friday morning.

Sagmoen was convicted of one count of assault in 2020 after ramming a woman he had hired for sex with an ATV. He was convicted on another count of assault in 2019 for another attack on a sex worker.

In 2022, the RCMP warned Okanagan sex workers to stay away from Sagmoen and his property in the Salmon River Road area, where he lived at the time.

The police warning said: "In the interest of their safety, we are once again advising anyone who receives a request for sex-related services in the area of Salmon River Road (to) not attend the area and contact police immediately."
