Environment Canada has issued a special air quality statement for the Kamloops area, Shuswap and north Okanagan.
Over the next day or two, wildfire smoke is expected to impact communities like Kamloops, Salmon Arm, Vernon and as far east as Nelson.
“Smoke from active fires in the Northeast, Central Interior, and Southern Interior continues to impact downwind communities,” says Environment Canada.
Fine particles in the air may cause a health risk for vulnerable populations and may be a bit irritating to others.
That includes people with pre-existing health conditions or respiratory infections, older adults, pregnant women, infants and children.
Interior Health advises people to reduce activity levels when outdoors and to carry “rescue medications” if you have asthma or other chronic illnesses.
