Co-owners Dr. Jaspal Sarao and Dr. Sunil Malhotra took the top two spots in the Best Dentist category in this year's Best of Kamloops competition with Centennial Dental Centre and Fortune Dental and Implant Centre.
The two have been friends for more than 17 years and worked together to pursue their dreams of becoming healthcare workers in Canada.
“We share similar values in our practice and philosophy, in that patient quality of care supersedes all else,” says Dr. Jaspal.
“We enjoy having open dialogues and work very well together in serving the Kamloops community.”
There are many aspects of Centennial and Fortune that set them apart from other dental offices.
For starters, they are dedicated to consistently giving back to the community.
“Owning a business definitely brings a deeper sense of belongingness within the community and we have more freedom in our ways of giving back,” Dr. Sunil explains.
They have taken Ukrainian refugees as patients free of charge, offered services to lower income families and helped government assisted patients that not a lot of dental offices have been able to provide for.
They feel privileged to be a source for newly graduated UBC students to get practical experience under their guidance and provide their services to patients in need.
Both Dr. Jaspal and Dr. Sunil are grateful to have established long-lasting and valuable relationships with their patients and staff.
“It is immensely gratifying to be able to restore a smile or relieve patients from unbearable pain. The most rewarding part for me is to see the rate of decay and gum disease dropping down to zero with successive visits,” says Dr. Sunil.

Dr. Sunil describes dentistry as “the perfect blend of art and science.”
His grandfather was a denturist, which inspired him to help people achieve a beautiful smile.
“I decided dentistry was the perfect fit for me and I think I made the right choice,” he adds.
For Dr. Jaspal, working with his hands and helping others with their oral health is the ideal professional career.
Kindness, humour, humility and family are some of Dr. Jaspal’s values. He strives to share moments of joy with those around him, both professionally and personally.
“I believe that humour and small acts of kindness can make a huge impact in a person’s life,” he says.
Values are also an integral part of Dr. Sunil’s life.
“Honesty, transparency, respect, genuine care and commitment towards my patients are the values that motivate and guide me through any decisions,” he explains.
