Blazers ink Dylan Sydor, son of former Blazer and NHL standout Darryl, to WHL player agreement

If you’re looking for good bloodlines in a hockey player, look no further than Dylan Sydor.

The 17-year-old forward inked a standard WHL player agreement with the Kamloops Blazers today, continuing a bit of a family tradition.

Sydor’s dad, Darryl, played four seasons in Kamloops between 1988-92, and is now a part-owner of the Blazers, along with a member of the team’s coaching staff.

Of course, Darryl played 1,291 career NHL games and won two Stanley Cups in between his stints with the Blazers.

Unlike his dad, who was a tough stay-at-home defenseman, Sydor is a skilled forward who put up 37 points in 40 games for the Thompson Blazers during the 2019-20 season.

“We are excited that Dylan has committed to the Kamloops Blazers organization,” said Matt Bardsley, Blazers GM.

“Dylan earned a spot on our list when he attended training camp in August of 2019 and we have seen great progress in his development.”

Sydor has been practicing with the Merritt Centennials over recent months and suited up in four games for the team when the BCHL played a pre-season tournament back in the fall.

The 17-year-old will join the club on the ice next week after completing his quarantine and testing requirements.
