BC's top doctor addressed the province today with the daily update on COVID-19.
According to Dr. Bonnie Henry, there are 11 new cases of the virus since Friday, bring up the provincial total to 2,573. At this point, there are just 228 active cases, with 35 of those people in the hospital and five of them in the Intensive Care Unit.
On another positive note, there were no new deaths caused by the virus. No new outbreaks were discovered and two active outbreaks at the Evergreen House and Haro Park have been declared over.
"We know that residents were severly impacted by COVID-19 very early on in our pandemic, so this is very good news," said Henry. "I'm relieved and want to express my gratitude and our thanks to all of the care teams who worked in Haro Park in a very challenging time where we knew very little about this virus early on."
With those outbreaks over, there are now just 14 active outbreaks in the province. 13 of the outbreaks are at long-term care facilities while one is in acute care.
Of the 2,573 cases, 1,285 come from Fraser Health, 902 are from Vancouver Coastal Health, 195 were from Interior Health, 127 are in Island Health, and 64 were part of Northern Health. A total of 2,181 people have now recovered from COVID-19.
Henry went on to urge children to stay safe when they return to school this week. She encouraged residents to continue fighting the good fight and keeping gathering down to a minimum.
