Dr. Bonnie Henry announced sweeping new public health restrictions on Monday.
As a result, BC has temporarily suspended in-person dining in bars and restaurants until April. 19.
Dining on patios, take-out and delivery service is still permitted.
Group indoor fitness activities for adults have also been paused, restricting gyms and fitness centres to solar or one-on-one exercise such as personal training.
The previously lifted restrictions on indoor religious worship services have now been rescinded and once again temporarily suspended.
However, outdoor worship services under the current regulations may continue.
Officials have also ordered the entire Whistler-Blackcomb ski resort to close through to April 19, to help prevent community spread and non-essential travel.
The stricter measures arrive as the province recorded 2,518 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend.
There were 936 cases from Friday to Saturday, the highest single-day figure recorded in the province.
In addition, there were 805 cases reported from Saturday to Sunday, and 777 from Sunday to Monday.
BC's test positivity rate now sits 9.68%, a jump from around 6.5% the past few weeks.
