The good news is that BC didn’t break its single-day record yet again, the bad news is that COVIS-19 cases continue to surge in the province.
On Friday, health officials announced another 139 news cases had been reported 24-hours after BC set a new single day case record with 165 cases.
“The cases we are seeing today are a direct result of how we spent our Labour Day long weekend,” said Dr. Bonnie Henry in a written statement.
“No one intends to pass the virus onto friends or family, but it is very easy to do. It can take up to two weeks for symptoms of COVID-19 to develop and in that time, we can inadvertently spread it to others.”

Another three COVID-19 related deaths were also announced on Friday, bringing the province’s death toll to 223.
Earlier in the week, officials reported that 85% of K-12 public school students have returned to in-class learning this week despite growing COVID-19 concerns.
In addition, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced on Thursday that BC has created a first-of-its-kind mouth rinse gargle sample collection as an easier way for students to be tested for the virus.
