BC health officials reported 849 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday, along with two new deaths.
Of the new cases, 247 were in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 474 were in the Fraser Health region, 29 were in Island Health, 67 were in Interior Health, and 31 were in Northern Health.
There are now 456 people in hospital, an all time high, with 148 patients in intensive care with the virus.
“At the current rates of transmission, our health-care workers and hospitals are getting pushed to the limits to support the many people with COVID-19 who require care," said Dr. Bonnie Henry in a written statement.
“We are taking steps to reduce this pressure and we need everyone in B.C. to do the same. Later this week, new orders will be in place to restrict vacation and recreational travel outside of your home health authority."
There are currently 163 active cases of the COVID-19 variants in BC, the most prevalent of which is the UK B.1.1.7 variant.
To date, 1,414,644 doses of the vaccines have been administered in BC, 88,263 of which are second doses.
People 35 years and older are now eligible to register for a vaccine via the BC government website.
