BC's daily COVID-19 update reports 18 new cases, 3 additional deaths

BC has announced that 18 new cases of COVID-19 have been identified in the past 24 hours.

On Friday, the province’s daily update also confirmed three additional deaths related to the virus, bringing BC’s death toll to 155.

BC has also implemented an order restricting the number of vehicles to 50 at outdoor drive-in events, with additional restrictions on the sale of refreshments.

"Anyone attending these events must stay in their cars unless they have to go to washrooms, which must be serviced with running water for proper hand hygiene," said the province in a press release.

There are currently 310 active cases across the province, with 41 people in hospital, eight of whom are in intensive care.

Of the province’s 2,507 total identified cases, there have been 888 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 1,236 in the Fraser Health region, 127 in the Island Health region, 194 in the Interior Health region and 62 in the Northern Health region.

A total of 2,042 people who have tested positive have fully recovered.

“There have been no new health-care outbreaks, and the outbreak at Lions Gate Hospital has been declared over," added the news release.

"In total, 14 long-term care or assisted-living facilities and two acute-care units have active outbreaks."

On Thursday, the province announced BC Parks campsites will be closed to non-BC residents this summer.
