It was an exciting morning for Corb Lund fans, as the Canadian singer-songwriter announced a new album and tour.
El Viejo will be released on Feb. 23, 2024, and the Taber, Alta., native will hit the road shortly after.
Lund will hit the road with special guests 49Winchester in early March, starting with a show in Vancouver before arriving in the Okanagan to play the Kelowna Community Theatre on Wednesday, Mar. 6.
Tickets are on sale now through Live Nation and will set you back $50 plus fees, or $159 plus fees if you’re looking for the VIP experience.
El Viejo will be Lund’s first album of original material since 2020’s critically-acclaimed Agricultural Tragic, and the 54-year-old says it’s a lot of minor keys and gambling songs.
“It was just a few of us in my house. No studio. No outside producer. No adults in the room. No stress. There’s not a single electric instrument on the whole thing, just acoustic sounds and singing,” he explains.
“In terms of having a vision, this is a record I’ve had in my sights for a while and it came out exactly how I’d hoped. We cut all the songs live in the same room with lots of bleed. A bunch of the songs we captured in one take, first time through.”
The album plays tribute to Lund’s late friend and mentor, Ian Tyson, who passed away last December.
Along with the album and tour announcement today, Lund also premiered a music video for El Viejo’s closing track, “Old Familiar Drunken Feeling.”
